NATIONAL APTITUDE TEST IN ARCHITECTURE ( NATA )
What Is It?
The National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) measures the aptitude of the applicant for specific field of study, i.e. Architecture. The test measures drawing and observation skills, sense of proportion, aesthetic sensitivity and critical thinking ability, that have been acquired over a long period of time, and that are related to specific field of study, i.e. Architecture.
Who Takes It and Why?
Prospective applicants desirous of taking admission to First year of undergraduate course in Architecture (Bachelor of Architecture) in India take NATA. NATA scores are used by admissions authorities of different Government, Govt. Aided & unaided schools / colleges of Architecture, to provide common measures for comparing the qualifications of applicants.
Where Do People Take It?
NATA is offered over major part of admission season at designated Test Centers located at colleges / schools of architecture in India. Updated list of Test centers is available at the website http://www.nata.in
Who Accepts It?
All schools / colleges of Architecture, Government, Government aided, University Departments, private unaided, including colleges affiliated to self-financed Deemed Universities and Private Universities, or any department of Architecture within a college, requires that its applicants take the NATA.
Test Fees
NATA Fees are Rs.800, and are to be paid at the time of Registration and before collection of the appointment voucher from the Test Center. The test fees are to be paid by Demand draft/ banker’s cheque drawn in favour of ‘Council of Architecture’, payable at New Delhi. Candidate has to carry filled registration form, support documents & D/D to the Test center for Registration & appointment.
Eligibility Criteria: The eligibility criteria for admission to 5-year B.Arch. Course shall be as follows:
10+2 or equivalent from a recognized Board/University with Mathematics as a subject of examination with at least 50% aggregate marks.
OR
10+3 Diploma (any stream) recognised by Central/ State Governments with 50% aggregate marks.
OR
International Baccalaureate Diploma, after 10 years of schooling, with not less than 50% marks in aggregate and with Mathematics as compulsory subject of examination.
NATA shall be conducted at various designated Test Centers in COA approved architectural institutions in the country on all working days commencing from March 15, 2009. The registration for
NATA at the designated test centers have begun w.e.f. March 1, 2009.
For appearing in NATA, the candidates are advised to access NATA website www.nata.in to download the list of test centres, list of participating institutions, NATA 2009 Brochure and Pre-Registration Form. After conduct of NATA, the admissions shall be carried out by respective State
Government/Competent Authority/Association of Architectural Institutions in the State, based on the valid NATA score and marks secured in the qualifying examination in the ratio of 50:50.
A NATA score shall be valid for 2 years for the purposes of admission to 5-year B.Arch. degree course in an architectural institution. The prospective students are also advised to confirm the approval status of institutions from COA website before taking admission in any institution in the country.
After admissions to 5-year B.Arch. degree course, all COA approved architectural institutions in the country shall be required to submit to COA, a list of students admitted by them as per the intake
sanctioned by COA for the academic session 2009-2010, for enabling COA to allot Unique Enrolment Nos. to these students. The students shall be required to furnish their Enrolment Nos. at the time of applying for registration as an architect with the Council.
